A small piece of news arrives, and his first thought is still to tell her. He opens their conversation before remembering there is no ordinary way back into it now. For a few seconds, the empty message box feels more familiar than the room around him.

The difficult moments have stopped announcing themselves. They appear while he is buying bread, when he remembers which loaf she used to choose. They appear at home, when two cups reach the counter out of habit. One stays empty until he notices it. There is nobody to argue with, no last conversation to improve. Only small movements that have not yet learned the new shape of his day.

He types the news anyway. Halfway through, he adds a detail because he can almost hear the question she would ask. Then he reads it from the beginning. It is not an apology or an attempt to start everything again. It is a minute of wanting the person who understood the unimportant parts. He deletes the message slowly, without turning the memory into a mistake.

On the walk home the next evening, he takes a different street. Not to avoid every place they shared, but because there are still streets he has never shown her. At home, he switches on the light and takes one cup from the shelf. “Моя вечная любовь” gives no promise of reunion. What remains is quieter: loving someone does not require keeping a place empty for them forever, and moving forward does not make what they had untrue.
