Back to Me
A fictional scene inspired by the song.Outside the club, she takes the long way home without quite deciding to. The bass is still following her through the soles of her shoes. At the next junction she finds herself turning towards an address she no longer needs to visit.
She knows this route too well: the late shop, the narrow pavement, the crossing that always takes longer at night. For months, every evening seemed to lead in the same direction. Now there is no arrangement waiting at the end of it. Only a habit that has kept walking after the relationship stopped. She slows beside a closed record shop and catches her reflection between two faded sleeves.
Her phone is already in her hand. She could send something small enough to sound accidental. A song, a joke, a question with an answer she already knows. Instead, she puts it away and crosses towards the bridge. The river carries the streetlights in broken lines. Somewhere behind her the club doors open, and the beat returns for a few seconds, as if the city has kept her place in the track.
She begins walking in time with it. Nothing is suddenly solved; she still misses someone. But the route changes. At her own door she searches for the key without checking the screen first. Inside, she leaves her shoes in the middle of the hall and opens a window. “Back to Me” holds both meanings at once: the wish for someone to return, and the quieter discovery that she has been missing from her own life too.
